Metal Fleet / Crane Collision Avoidance & Vehicle Tracking

Crane Collision Avoidance and Industrial Vehicle Tracking

Know the precise position of every overhead crane so cranes do not collide with each other, and protect vehicles and people working under a load.

Precise Crane Position,
Used to Prevent Collisions

Time-of-flight radio devices on each overhead crane measure its position precisely as it moves along the runway.

With every crane’s position known, the system helps prevent collisions between overhead cranes that share a runway, and helps keep a crane from running off the end of its runway. The goal is collision avoidance: keeping cranes from hitting each other. It is often called crane avoidance.

How the system warns or intervenes depends on your crane controls and is defined during the site analysis.

Crane collision avoidance supports your safety program. It does not replace your plant’s safety procedures or certified safety systems.

Active RFID and Cameras
Under the Load

To protect vehicles and people working under a crane load, Metal Fleet can combine active RFID with cameras.

The design depends on your crane bays and traffic patterns, and is set during the site analysis.

Vehicles and Mobile Equipment,
Indoors and Out

Follow coil transport vehicles and other mobile equipment as they travel between indoor bays and outdoor areas.

Hybrid systems hand off between GPS outdoors and active RFID indoors, so a vehicle is not lost at the doorway.

Technology

Technology Behind
Crane and Vehicle Tracking

Position, identification and visual confirmation work together.

Time-of-Flight Radio

Gives the position of each overhead crane for collision avoidance and end-of-runway protection.

Active RFID

Tags on vehicles and people identify what is working near a crane’s path, indoors and in the yard.

Cameras

Combined with active RFID to protect vehicles and people under a crane load.

GPS + Active RFID Hybrid

Follows vehicles and mobile equipment between indoor bays and outdoor areas.

Questions

Common Questions
About Crane Collision Avoidance

What is crane collision avoidance?

Using the precise position of each overhead crane to help prevent collisions between cranes that share a runway, and to help keep a crane from running off the end of its runway. It is often called crane avoidance.

How do you get crane position?

Time-of-flight radio devices on each overhead crane measure its position as it moves along the runway.

How do you protect people under a crane load?

Metal Fleet can combine active RFID with cameras to protect vehicles and people working under a load. The design is set during the site analysis.

How do you track industrial vehicles in a steel plant?

With hybrid GPS and active RFID, which hand off between outdoor and indoor coverage so a vehicle is not lost at the doorway.

Is this a certified safety system?

No. It supports your safety program and does not replace your plant’s safety procedures or certified safety systems.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is set after a site and systems analysis, never before. The first step is a discovery call about your facility and what you need to track.

Let's Talk About
Your Assets

Tell us what you need to track and where it moves. We'll tell you how we can help and what it takes to get there. Because every facility is different, pricing is set after a call and an analysis.
